Job Description

  • Appropriately and accurately assign ICD-9-CM, HCPCS, CTP, E&M codes

  • Physician coding experience a plus

  • MS-DRGs understanding necessary

  • Maintain National productivity requirements

  • Interact with management, staff, and physicians to gain clear understanding of ambiguous documentation

  • The right candidate will possess thorough knowledge of coding principles and conventions

  • Diskriter Has clients in and around the PITTSBURGH AREA we have an immediate need for IP and OP coders to work PRN onsite

Required Qualifications

  • RHIA, RHIT, CCS Certifications

  • Computer Literate

  • 3-5 Years of recent In Patient coding

  • Thorough understanding of current coding clinics

  • Up to date with CEU’s

  • Working knowledge and proficiency with encoder and book if necessary

  • Maintain 95% consistent quality and detail oriented

  • Must have high speed internet connection and an understanding of viewing records online in order to code them from home

  • This is a travel position to code locally in the Pittsburgh area potential for remote coding opportunities PRN

Coding Technician
St. Clair Hospital

Job Description

Listening to our employees is just one reason why we’re such a great place to work. We currently have an opportunity for a Coding Technician.

This is a remote coding position. Selected individual will be working from home after meeting competencies on site. The selected individual will be responsible for compiling, coding, and abstracting all patient categories according to regulatory and payment guidelines. Working in our Medical Records Department, the successful candidate will perform the following functions:

  • Analyze inpatient and outpatient medical information and determine appropriate ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 codes for diagnoses/procedures for statistical, research, and reimbursement purposes.

  • Enter/verify required information into the appropriate abstracting/coding/grouping systems provided by the Hospital.

  • Obtain appropriate DRG assignment utilizing designated resources for various third party payors and Hospital case-mix indices.

  • Summarize patient medical records for use in statistical studies, research projects, and quality improvement processes.

  • Continually update knowledge regarding changes in coding and governmental changes that affect job responsibilities.

  • Operate various computer software packages in order to compile, process, and retrieve health information.

  • Interact with members of the medical staff and Hospital departments to obtain follow-up documentation necessary to code and abstract patients’ charts.

Required Qualifications 

  • An Associate’s degree in Health Information Technology or completion of an AHIMA ICD-9-CM and CPT coding course is required, along with 1 year of acute care hospital experience that includes coding of inpatients and outpatients.

  • The selected applicant must also have knowledge of diagnosis-related groups, groupers and encoders.

  • Certified Coding Specialist or current accreditation or accreditation eligibility as a Registered Health Information Technician preferred.
